Jack Grealish was seen letting his hair down a day after England’s Euro 2020 final loss to Italy as he posted a picture of him appearing to enjoy a drink while on holiday.

The 25-year-old became a popular member of England’s squad by producing some excellent displays in the cameo, with a highlight being consecutive assists in matches against Czech Republic and the last-16 win over Germany.

After Sunday’s painful penalty shootout loss to the Italians in the final, Grealish was sent away on his holidays and will get a substantial break before beginning the new Premier League season in August.

The midfielder played in the final which England lost to Italy via a cruel penalty shootout

And in an Instagram story post that has now been deleted, the midfielder uploaded a short video of him on Tuesday night with a drink in hand, with the caption: ‘Three Lions on the shirt’.

England were defeated in the shootout after Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their spot kicks which allowed Italy to lift the title.

Before heading off on holiday, Grealish was hailed as a ‘class act’ for giving the boots he wore in the final to a young England fan in the crowd at Wembley, despite the clear disappointment across the nation following the loss.

The Three Lions players then attended a post-tournament party that night with their families in a Wembley suite to celebrate their achievements.

Yet on Monday, Grealish came out to defend criticism from Roy Keane after the ITV pundit slammed the Villa midfielder and Raheem Sterling for letting 19-year-old Saka take a penalty before them

Keane said: ‘If you’re Grealish or Sterling, you can’t have a young kid step up in front of you.

Roy Keane slammed Grealish for allowing 19-year-old Bukayo Saka to take a penalty before him

‘You can’t sit there and say “I see a 19-year-old kid walk in front of me, when I’ve played a lot more games, a lot more experience…” and Sterling, who has won trophies.

‘I’m not saying he wasn’t prepared, he might have been (penalty taker) six or seven, (but) you can’t sit there. It must be hard to take. You’ve got to get in front of this kid and say “listen, I’m gonna step up in front of you”.’

And Grealish responded by revealing he did ask manager Gareth Southgate to take one of the five initial spot kicks but the England boss had already decided his takers.

The midfielder tweeted on Monday morning, saying: ‘I said I wanted to take one!!!! The gaffer has made so many right decisions through this tournament and he did tonight!

Grealish hit back at Keane’s jibe by saying he did ask Gareth Southgate (right) to take one

‘But I won’t have people say that I didn’t want to take a peno when I said I will…’

Grealish is expected to be involved in England’s next squad when the September international break comes around again for World Cup qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland.

But his club future remains in doubt as Manchester City hold an interest in breaking the British transfer record for the 25-year-old midfielder.

Sportsmail revealed last month that City believe a £100million bid for the Villa playmaker will be enough to get their number one midfield target for the summer.

Grealish impressed at Euro 2020 and could have a new club in Manchester City come August

However, Aston Villa, who signed Norwich attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia for £40million and bid £30m for Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe, are preparing to offer Grealish a new contract to try and keep him at his boyhood club.

Pep Guardiola’s City are also eyeing up a bid for England captain Harry Kane, who scored four goals at Euro 2020 with England this summer.

Kane told current club Tottenham in May that he wants to leave the club this summer, with a £100million bid rebuffed by Spurs at the start of the transfer window.
